Countless rumors claiming actor Ben Mendelsohn is in the first Star Wars Anthology film, Rogue One, have spread like wildfire across the interwebs! Where did this rumor start you ask? Well I have the answer for you after the jump!
Well the original rumor came from Jacen's waiter cousin, who we will refer to as "DeVon" to protect his identity. He spotted Mendelsohn at the Applebee's he works at sitting with Gary Whitta and Gareth Edwards. "DeVon" immediately sent a text to Jacen to let him know about this apparent meeting Mendelsohn was having with the director and writer of the first Star Wars spin-off! "DeVon" was promptly fired for having his cell phone out during work hours, but that didn't stop him from getting us a scoop.
At this time FSW wasn't even a glimmer in our eyes, so Jacen leaked the info to Reddit under the guise of "Math Blaster" and it took the internet by storm. It was being reported by huge media outlets such as our cousin sites Making Star Wars and Fox News.
This part we learned over the weekend. "DeVon," as a customer of the bar and grill, requested the booth right next to Mendelsohn, Whitta, and Edwards to eavesdrop on their conversation. As it turns out, Mendelsohn was just stopping by to ask Whitta for a cigarette as he is an avid chain smoker and needed his next fix. The conversation lasted all of two minutes just shooting the breeze. Nothing of Star Wars ever came up.
So there you have it folks, Ben Mendelsohn is NOT is Rogue One! The part he was rumored for is actually being played by X-Files actor David Duchovny as we reported earlier this year.
