Nien Nunb and Admiral Ackbar will be appearing as themselves in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but Lost star Ken Leung will NOT be playing a humanoid. In fact, the 45-year old Asian American virgin will be the film's only Neimoidian. That's right, those cartoonish Asian stereotypes from the Star Wars prequels are back, only this time Disney and Lucasfilm are being much more sensitive about the character's use.
According to director JJ Abrams: "We're bringing back a single Neimoidian, and this time, making him a good guy, and having him be played by a talented Asian actor. It's a trifecta really!"
Here's a world-exclusive we can finally unveil: Ken Leung as a Neimoidian Republic military leader.
No word on whether Leung's voice will be altered or if subtitles will be used, but it seems less likely what with Abram opting for practical effects in most instances.
